Shelter Staff — Seasonal Part-Time

Employment Period: November 1 – April 30

Available Shifts

Night Shift: 11:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.
Morning Shift: 5:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

Both shifts have the same responsibilities and job expectations.

General Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Board of Directors, Shelter Staff are responsible for the safe and effective operation of The Abraham Connection during their assigned shift.

Duties Include

  • Ensuring the shelter is safe and clean
  • Working to resolve conflicts
  • Demonstrating compassion and concern for guests
  • Enforcing shelter rules and policies
  • Troubleshooting problems and taking initiative to resolve them
  • Documenting issues and concerns
  • Attending and fully participating in staff meetings and training sessions
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Extending courtesy, friendliness, and respect to all
  • Being available during weekday and weekend hours, including holidays

  • Sensitivity to the needs of individuals in crisis
  • Flexibility to cover shifts as needed
  • Good communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills
  • Ability to implement consequence guidelines in potentially volatile situations
  • Knowledge and understanding of homelessness and interventions in a shelter setting
